Blog spotlight: Joint Commission issues Sentinel Event Alert on opioid use

On August 8, The Joint Commission issued a Sentinel Event Alertregarding specific steps hospitals should take to prevent complications or deaths from opioid use. Opioids can cause adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, delirium, and respiratory depression, according to the Alert. Opioids are also commonly implicated in adverse drug reactions.
