A new milestone was reached this month in patient safety as the number of healthcare providers holding the Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) credential topped 1,000.

The certified healthcare providers include nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. It’s the only evidence-based, multidisciplinary examination that assesses competency in patient safety, according to a press release from the National Patient Safety Foundation.

CPPS was developed in 2012 by the NPSF to establish patient safety competency standards and elevate those who meet knowledge requirements in safety science and the practice of safe care.
