National Quality Strategy unveiled

The Department of Health and Human Services unveiled the National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care as part of the Affordable Care Act, signed into law March 24, 2010.

The strategy aims to set priorities and plan toward better quality, lower cost care and healthier communities. The priorities of the plan include:

·        Reducing harm caused in the delivery of care

·        Engaging patients and families in care

·        Promoting effective communication and coordination of care

·        Preventing the leading causes of mortality, starting with cardiovascular disease

·        Promoting healthful best practices in communities

·        Providing more affordable care by developing new healthcare delivery models
