Proposed bill advocates for more visas for foreign nurses, stronger domestic nursing education

A new proposed bill aims to lessen the effects of a nursing shortage, reports AHA News. The bill, proposed by Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) would reserve 20,000 employment-based visas for foreign nurses and physical therapists over the next three years. The bill also calls for more funds to be provided to U.S. nursing schools, which have to turn away 99,000 qualified candidates annually, and to keep nurses in the workforce.
