The length of time that a nurse has been on the job at a particular hospital might be directly tied to that facility’s level of patient safety and health, according to a report from EHRintelligence.com.

The report, which followed a four-year studyconducted in Veterans Affairs hospitals by Columbia University, showed that nurses with longer tenures in the same hospital unit were tied to significantly improved cost savings and patient outcomes.

The researchers reviewed more than 900,000 patient cases, the researchers concluded that for each additional year a nurse has been on a particular hospital unit, length of stay decreased 1.3% per patient, according to the report.
