Patient safety advocate ECRI Institute has released a list of what it says are the top 10 patient safety issues faced by the country, reports the website Health Data Management.
Listed are some of the usual suspects, including poor coordination with a patient’s next level of care, errors during surgical procedures, drug shortages, improper equipment disinfection, and patient falls.
Others that were mentioned on the list include less obvious concerns such as integrity issues with IT systems that can result in data entry errors and medical mistakes, and the problem of patient violence that can result from improperly handling behavioral health patients in acute care settings.
